I'm from Guatemala but reside in the U.S. I've visited Portugal many times. My best friend is Portuguese and whenever he goes, I usually go along. His family resides in Algarve and what a beautiful place. On my many trips, I've visited all through out Portugal. The best time I've had over there was during the Euro 2004.

I'm from the Northeast of the US and Ithere is a large Portuguese population here - mostly from the Azores. However, there are also a number of Portuguese from the continent as well. (my gf is one of them.)

I have been to Portugal 3 times and have been all over the country. (Except for the Azores.) My last trip there was about 18 months ago and we flew into Lisboa, rented a car and drove north, stopping in Coimbra, Porto, Braga, Ponte de Lima, and into Spain. A friend of hers got married in Braga.

Anyway, I love the country of Portugal! I've found the people to be really friendly and warm. The food is fantastic and thanks to my exposure to Portugal, I enjoy sitting outside on a warm summer night, drinking a glass of cold vinho verde!

OK...I'm slightly biased, but I find the Portuguese to be the warmest people in Europe! (And I've traveled a bit so I feel I can say this without falling back on stereotypes!)

(I also wish I could spend time in the Algarve every summer!!! A few years ago, we spent 11 days just relaxing on the beach before visiting her family....we should have visited the family first and then relaxed on the beach!)

well, im from Turkey and i heard of Portugal that there are sincere and lovely people and in comparison, there is no difference of Turkish and Portuguese people by this point. Also, soccer is another common issue for both. i remember that Portugal has beaten us with the score 2-1 in our team's last match. One of your talented footballer, (of course, ur legend is Luis Figo but) Cristiano Ronaldo is loved in Turkey very much and there are lots of fanatics of him...

I'm from the US.
The most beautiful woman I ever knew was from Portugal.
I fell in love with her and her bacalhau. Alas, it was not to be, but thanks for the memory jog.

I'm Portuguese and apart from the fact that it's home, I don't think you want to know what I think of Portugal... Plus, it's a bit cold in the winter (at least upnorth) and I have the flu.

Well, let's see. I am originally from TN, live in Germany now. My dad went to Portugal on vacation once and brought back these cool tile things. So that's what I associate with Portugal. Oh, and my neighbor is half Portugeese (however you spell it) and she has curly hair and I associate that w/ ppl from there too. And I also know or maybe think that the eastern-most point of Europe is in Portugal.

Periquita pastelaria for Travesseiras in Sintra, Portugal
Salema, Portugal is a great sleepy beach town in the Algarve Region
Fado music is great and you can ask any cab driver to take you to the best place to listen to Fado in whatever city you're in.
The cheese (Queijo) and bread and seafood is amazing. But you should know that the stuff they put on the table at a restaurant like cheese, bread and sardines aren't free. So if you touch it, you bought it. :-)
In Lisboa, O Castello de San Jorge is a great site.
Also, walking around Placa de Rossio (prounouced plah-sah-do-roo-see-eww) is beautiful.
At night if you wanna go out and have a drink head to Barrio Alto (it's an area of town with tons of bars and fun places to go).
Also, go to Sintra, Portugal - it's a suburb of Lisbon. You can take the train stright from Rossio statino to Sintra for 1.70 Euro. The town has several Castles and Palaces. Check out the 11th Century Moorish castle (Castello dos Murros) and Palacio Nacional de Pena. And just walk the cobblestone streets.

That's all I've got for now! Have a great time!

Boa Viagem!
